All Natural Deodorant

Introduction

Skin is the largest organ of the human body. We like to believe that our skin protects us from harmful chemicals that we come into contact with but in many circumstances, this is not true. When chemicals get in contact with our skin and sit for a length of time, our skin will absorb it. This is particularly true when we are talking about products put under our arms. Many commercial personal care products contain harmful chemical that can cause a wide variety of disease such as Alzheimer's or Cancer. The Internet is not short of web sites that show research that links chemicals to disease. We encourage all of our customers to see for yourself by searching the chemical database at www.ewg.org/skindeep/ .

If you aim to live a natural, organic, healthy lifestyle, you should be suspicious of any ingredient that has multiple-syllable, chemical sounding names.  Whatever your reason for seeking out all natural deodorant, you might want to know the ingredients that you are trying to avoid: aluminum, parabens, synthetic coloring, synthetic fragrance and triclosan.

HERB FACTS
1. Witch Hazel:
If you have sensitive skin, you may find that regular antiperspirants and deodorants irritate your skin because of the alcohol content. If so, look for a deodorant with witch hazel, which is renowned for its skin-soothing properties. Witch hazel, is derived from the bark and leaves of a shrub, works as an astringent in deodorant. It shrinks the pores in the armpit and also causes any sweat that does escape from those pores to evaporate. As a bonus for those who shave their underarms, witch hazel is also used in aftershaves and can ease razor burn.

2. Essential Oils:
You don't need artificial perfumes to keep things smelling pleasant in the underarms; for that, you can look for essential oils, which are derived from plants. Essential oils earn their keep in multiple ways and some of these oils also have antibacterial properties that help fight odor before it starts. Sweat only smells when bacteria eats and digests it, so by killing bacteria, essential oils stop odor before it begins.

3. Baking Soda: (aluminum free)
You count on a box of baking soda to keep your refrigerator smelling fresh; why wouldn't you trust it to do the same for your underarms? The chemical composition of baking soda reacts with odor molecules so that they will be neutralized on impact.  And baking soda doesn't just address smell, but wetness as well. Unlike regular anti- perspirants, nothing in baking soda will prevent sweat from escaping your glands, however, baking soda will soak up excess perspiration so that your underarms feel dry.
